Are you considering having dental implants to replace missing teeth? Your top 5 frequently asked questions about implants by Northlight dental

Regardless of your age, having missing teeth can be a real confidence kicker. It can cause you to stop smiling in photographs, withdraw from social situations and can have a negative impact on your well-being.

While having a fitted bridge or a partial denture was once the way to resolve the functionality of a mouth with missing teeth, today, more dental surgeries are able to offer more permanent solutions to this common issue.

At Northlight Dental, we are proud to be able to offer our patients dental implants in Milton Keynes, to help restore their smile and their confidence.

Before you choose to undertake dental implants in Milton Keynes with us, here are your most commonly asked questions about implants answered.

Will having implants hurt?

When you come to Northlight Dental to have your dental implants in Milton Keynes fitted, you will be given a local numbing agent to prevent you feeling any discomfort while our dentists fit the implant(s) to your jaw.

After this is completed, any discomfort you may experience will be minor and should be controllable, if necessary, with over the counter medications. If you are worried about the level of pain you are feeling, book an appointment to see us.

What happens during the procedure?

Once you have been numbed, our dentists will cut into your gums and gently pull the skin back.

Using a small drill, they will then create a hole (or holes) across your jawbone, where they intend the implants to be fitted. Once the small, metal screws (implants) are fitted into these holes, your gum line is sewn up with dissolvable stitches.

The prostheses (or teeth) will be fitted to the implants between 2 to 6 months later, depending on how long it takes your jawbone to grow around the implants.

Can anyone have implants?

As long as your oral and overall health is good and you are over the age of 18, you can have dental implants.

Certain lifestyle choices, like smoking and drinking alcohol, can reduce the success rate of implants, so be aware that in order for your implants to last, you may need to adapt your lifestyle.

How long do implants last?

While they are a more permanent solution to dentures or fixed bridges, unfortunately, implants do not last forever.

However, with correct maintenance, good lifestyle and regular check-ups with our dentists, your implants will last anywhere from between 15 to 40 plus years.

How much will they cost?

At Northlight Dental, we know money can be a concern.

When you come to us for implants, depending on suitability, you can take out finance with us to help pay for the cost of the procedure.

This will allow you to break your payment down into affordable, monthly chunks, meaning all you will have to worry about is how to pose with your new smile in photos!
